All of our training is second to none and ensures you are fully prepared to fulfil your role and to deliver that Virgin difference. All the while, learning something about yourself too.
For us it’s simple. The more we can teach you about your role, the better you’ll be at handling it and the happier too. Initial training takes place at our Talent Academy, but doesn’t end there. We believe in providing ongoing training to ensure you excel in your role and develop your skills throughout your career with us. We provide a wide range of courses that will inspire and motivate you. Depending on the role that you’ve been appointed to, you’ll get:
You’ve got to be on top of your game while working on our station platforms or in the retail areas selling tickets. You’ll be taken step-by-step through everything you need to know about our business, the industry and of course the job you’ll be doing. There’s a lot to learn, but we have a bit of fun along the way too. You’ll be taught everything from uniform standards and railway geography to selling tickets and railway safety. Plus you’ll get some hands-on experience at your designated station and meet the team you’ll be working with.
Customer Service Assistant is a challenging and rewarding job. You’ll need to learn a whole range of skills from food hygiene to onboard emergency procedures. Also lessons on how to use the kitchen equipment and prepare for a service onboard. We’ll also teach you how to keep a cool head when offering a great service at 125mph. You can look forward to a lot of practical experience too. That way you’ll be confident that you have the skills to give our customers the best possible Virgin experience while onboard.
This role is all about ensuring the safety of our customers while they travel with us and knowing what to do in the event of an emergency. Our Ops and Safety trainers will teach you all you need to know to do just that. You have to complete extensive training and pass an exam in order to be a Train Manager, to prove you fully understand the demands of your job. Training for this role is 9 weeks long. You’ll learn about signals, track safety, the onboard computer, tickets and lots more besides. You can expect plenty of practical training too. And the chance to try out your new skills before putting them into practice for real.
